Our task in Directed Self Study involves creating our own business cards and logos in Adobe Illustrator. The cards are created using vector graphics, which, unlike bitmap formats, allows for easy resizing and scaling of the various elements of an image. Each text object on my business card has two colours, one for the outline and another for the fill colour. While it would have been possible to use gradients (colour fading) on the image, I elected to keep the image's colours solid and simple. This way, it becomes much easier to read, which is important for a business card due to its small size. The logo itself uses a 3D filtering function, built in to Illustrator, which allows for easy 3D effects including different angles, bevels and even shading. Although the text itself is flat, I also applied my own subtle shadow effects to the text by simply making copies of it, colouring it darker and adjusting opacity. For the logos, I decided to use my initials to construct various shapes, and see which ones look best. Ultimately I went with the third option below, as the positioning of the letters looks like a key.
